DETROIT, Mich. – Junior
Jesse Scanzano recorded her third career hat trick, and the top-ranked Mercyhurst College women's hockey team cruised past Wayne State, 7-2, in a College Hockey America contest Saturday afternoon in Detroit, Mich. The Lakers improve to 9-1-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in league play while Wayne State falls to 3-5-2 and 0-2-0
Scanzano, who also added an assist for four points, was one of six Lakers who had two or more points in the game. Sophomores

Kelley Steadman combined for five, with Jones netting two goals and an assist and Steadman with two goals as well. Juniors
Vicki Bendus,
Ashley Cockell and
Melissa Lacroix each had two assists to pace the offense.

Just as Friday had played out, the Lakers broke open the game in a short amount of time in the first period. Mercyhurst staked a 3-0 lead on goals from Jones (12:30), Steadman (14:42) and Scanzano (15:32) within a two minute and 32 second span.
Following intermission, both teams exchanged a pair scores to start the middle stanza. After a goal from ex-Mercyhurst skater
Lauren Ragen to open the frame, Scanzano netted her second of the game to restore the three-goal advantage at 4:33. Katrina Protopappas narrowed the gap back to two at 8:33, but goals from Steadman at 9:00 and Jones at 17:48 pushed the score to 6-2 leading into the third.
Scanzano completed her hat trick - and closed out the game - with less than 32 seconds to play at 19:28.
Mercyhurst outshot Wayne State 29-25 and converted 2-for-7 on the power play. Both extra-man goals came in the second period courtesy of Scanzano and Jones. Sophomore
Hillary Pattenden registered 23 saves and allowed one even-strength goal as the Warriors went 1-for-8 with the extra skater.
Mercyhurst returns to action in two weeks with a series at Niagara on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.
