EDINBORO, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst College women's volleyball fell in straight sets at rival Edinboro, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17.
The loss drops the Lakers to 19-10 overall, 10-7 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference while the Fighting Scots improve to 21-9 overall, 12-4 in the Western Division. Mercyhurst is now a half-game back of Gannon for fourth-place in the divisional standings. California is the top-ranked team in the PSAC West while Clarion and Edinboro are second and third, respectively.
Justine Smith led the Lakers with six kills while Chelsea Jensen added five and Amanda Balasko and Becky Smith deposited three kills each. Defensively, Elyse Texido paced the Hurst with 12 digs while J. Smith and B. Smith added three blocks.
The Lakers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 31 when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a non-conference match up before closing the regular season with back-to-back home matchs against IUP and California on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7.
