Lakers Dominate Singles Play To Edge Allegheny

Tim Hansson won a huge three-set singles match to help clinch the victory.
Meadville, Pa. – Mercyhurst overcame three doubles losses by winning 5-of-6 singles matches to edge Allegheny College Tuesday night in men's tennis action. The Lakers avenged an 8-1 loss to the Gators a year ago by winning a pair of three-set matches.

No. 1 singles player Tim Hansson and No. 6 player Kyle King both lost the first set before fighting back to win two straight sets. Both of them had to battle through tiebreaks to get the win. Hansson won 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) and Kyle was victorious 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. Ronald Heurich also had to win a tiebreak before picking up a straight set victory at No. 3 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. Mijo Cotic and Adam Marnik won with relative ease at No. 2 and No. 5, picking up 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3 wins respectively.

Mercyhurst could have made things a bit easier but lost two of the three doubles matches 9-7. Hansson and Mike Aronson lost by that score at No. 1 and King and Heurich lost by the same score at No. 3.

Mercyhurst improves to 2-0 on the season and will play its only fall PSAC match of the season Saturday. The Lakers will travel to Slippery Rock but will play West Chester at 12 p.m.
