Women's Golf Takes Seventh at Gannon Invite

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's golf team held its position through the second and final round of the Gannon Invitational, finishing seventh out of 10 teams.

The Lakers shot 374 Sunday after shooting 357 Saturday, and totaled 731 strokes for the two-day tournament.

Michelle Spiegel shot a second-round 88 and led the team overall, tying for 30th place with 178 strokes. Mattye Laurer tied for 37th place, shooting a 98 after her first-round 84. Alanna Kirwan finished in 39th place with a score of 183, while Lauren Montebell shot 188 to finish 44th out of 60 competitors.

California (Pa.) won the team championship with a score of 624, as the Vulcans' top four claimed the first four individual places, led by medalist Sophie Hufnagel, who shot 151 for the two-round tournament. Ashland University placed second in the meet.

Mercyhurst will compete in the Allegheny Invitational Thursday.
