LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mercyhurst (1-6-0) lost to Louisville (6-1-0) on Sunday with a final score of 3-1. The Lakers were outshot 21-5 but put three shots on goal and finished with eight saves.
Adri Lika kept the Lakers level early, saving a shot at 8:20 as Louisville had three more shots and two corners by 12:45 during a stretch that also included fouls on both teams. Louisville broke through at 21:43 on a team goal, adding another at 22:31 to put the Lakers behind 2-0. Lika added two more saves in the half, while Louisville recorded three corner kicks.
Amely Molina sent the Lakers' late shot out left at 44:59 before the half ended with Louisville ahead 2-0.
Alyssa Alcorn saved three early second-half shots from before Louisville scored off an assist at 51:50 to put Louisville ahead 3-0. The Lakers cut the deficit to 3-1 at 66:30 when
Maddi Cowburn scored from
Julia Bullock, and
Gabrielle Garcia put another attempt on frame at 68:45. It was Cowburn's first goal of the season. Louisville pushed for more with shots and corner kicks through the final 20 minutes, but Alcorn added two more saves while
Caterina Cappiello and
Jenna Popowski recorded late Lakers attempts. The score held from there as Louisville finished off a 3-1 result.
Cowburn scored on her only shot, while Bullock recorded an assist for the Lakers. Alcorn finished with five saves over 45 minutes in goal.
