Women's Soccer Falls to Akron at Home

ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst (1-7-0) lost to Akron (4-3-0) with a final score of 4-0 on Thursday. The Lakers were limited to four shots, including two on goal, while facing 25 Akron shots.
 
The Lakers had to play from an early 2-0 deficit after Akron scored twice early at 1:33 and 2:06. Adri Lika made two saves before Akron scored at 20:05 to give them a 3-0 lead. Anamari Bosnjak sent the Laker's first recorded shot left at 28:02 during a foul-heavy stretch, while Akron continued to create chances with corners and shots, including Lika's save at 32:32. Lika added two more saves in the final minutes as Akron carried a 3-0 advantage into halftime.
 
Jenna Popowski put two early second-half shots on frame for the Lakers, but Akron's goalkeeper saved both attempts at 47:10 and 50:11. Akron generated the next sustained push, with Lika saving two more shots before another stop at 64:21. Akron scored at 64:33 to make it 4-0, and the half turned more physical later with yellow cards to Sadie Lewis and Molly Taylor. The Lakers got a late look from Taylor at 84:39, but Akron kept them off the board and finished the match with a 4-0 result.
 
Lika recorded eight saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Popowski led the Lakers with two shots and put both attempts on goal.
