MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Mercyhurst women's soccer team (1-5-0) fell to Morehead State (4-3-0) in a 2-1 loss on Thursday at MSU Soccer Field.
Camryn Klein recorded the Lakers' first shot, but Morehead State scored first at 6:40 for a 1-0 lead. The Lakers pushed back midway through the half with corner kicks at 20:17 and 21:21, followed by Klein sending a shot out top and
Julia Bullock and
Jenna Popowski putting attempts on frame that Morehead State's goalkeeper saved. Morehead State added to the margin at 36:21, scoring a second goal as Morehead State carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Lakers created pressure through Bullock, whose two shot attempts early in the second half were saved. Popowski scored at 61:54 to bring the Lakers within 2-1. Popowski's goal was her second of the season, coming off being named NEC Rookie of the Week last week.
Gabrielle Garcia put another Lakers shot on frame, while Morehead State pushed back with multiple late chances.
Alyssa Alcorn recorded two saves for Mercyhurst late in the match. The Lakers ultimately could not find another goal as the match ended 2-1.
Popowski scored the Lakers' goal and finished with three shots, including two on goal. Bullock recorded three shots and put all three on frame. Alcorn made two saves in 45 minutes and did not allow a goal.
