ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst tied Detroit Mercy 2-2 on Tuesday at Saxon Stadium. Jackson Chiocco scored in the 88th minute as the Lakers equalized late after trailing 2-1. It was Chiocco's first career goal, which served as the equalizer.
Alvar Silva scored in the 42nd minute to open the scoring for the Lakers and put the home side ahead 1-0 before halftime. Earlier, the Lakers recorded the first shot of the half through Silva in the 1st minute and earned an early corner, while Jaime Tedaldi made a save in the 9th minute to keep Detroit Mercy off the board.
The Lakers later generated a concentrated attacking stretch from the 34th to the 38th minute, taking five shots and earning five corner kicks, including attempts by Benjamin Buckley, Santiago Giraldo, Joseff Edwards, Jacob Anderson and Joe Chinchilla. Detroit Mercy had a late shot go wide after Silva's goal, but the Lakers reached halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Chiocco scored off Anderson's assist in the 88th minute to bring the Lakers level at 2-2 after Detroit Mercy had gone in front with two goals in the 67th minute. Earlier, the Lakers handled three Detroit Mercy corner kicks in the opening 1st minute of the half, then created chances through Silva, Luis Felipe Santos and Giraldo, whose shot in the 55th minute was saved by the Detroit Mercy goalkeeper.
Detroit Mercy answered with two goals in the 66th minute, turning a 1-0 Lakers lead into a 2-1 deficit. The Lakers pushed back with corner kicks in the 72nd and 73rd minute, shots from Chiocco, Tyler Prex and Silva, and another Chiocco attempt saved in the 85th minute before two late corners preceded the equalizer. The match finished tied 2-2.
