ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst University fell to FDU 4-1 on Saturday, as FDU's three-run seventh inning proved decisive. The Lakers managed four hits, with a lone run in the sixth, while FDU secured its victory with two home runs.
In the second inning, FDU took an early lead with a solo home run, putting them ahead 1-0. The score remained unchanged until the sixth inning when
Logan Koslin singled and eventually scored on
Zachary Kourous's RBI single, leveling the score at 1-1.
However, in the seventh inning, FDU regained the lead. After a double and a walk, the Knights hit a three-run homer, extending the margin to 4-1 in FDU's favor. The Lakers were unable to mount a comeback in the later innings, concluding the game with a 4-1 loss against FDU.
Nate Vargo delivered a solid performance, pitching six innings while allowing only two hits and one earned run. He struck out five batters and issued two walks, throwing 58 of his 102 pitches for strikes.
Nolan Kirsch came in as a reliever, pitching three innings and allowing three earned runs on three hits. Kirsch struck out four and walked two, with 29 strikes on 47 pitches.
Logan Koslin recorded one hit and scored a run in his performance.
Jayden Walker added a double and drew a walk. Kourous contributed with a hit and brought in one RBI.
The Lakers have a record of 13-22 and is 12-10 in the NEC. FDU boasts a record of 24-15 and holds a 17-5 NEC record.
The next challenge for the Lakers arrives at 12 p.m. Sunday, April 26, when it hosts FDU at Mercyhurst Baseball Field in Erie, Pennsylvania.
