Lakers Drop Close Matchup to Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. — Mercyhurst fell to Stonehill with a final score of 12-9 on Friday. Despite a six-run rally in the fourth inning, the Lakers were unable to overcome Stonehill's early lead and consistent scoring throughout the game.

Stonehill jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning, thanks to two singles and two two-run homeruns.The Lakers trailed 4-0 after the first inning.

The Lakers responded strongly in the fourth inning. Jayden Walker singled and scored on Mike Samarin's RBI single. Ranciel Ventura advanced the runners with a bunt single, and Ray Altmeyer brought in another run with a sacrifice fly. Derrick Holmes Jr., in a pinch-hit appearance, singled to load the bases for Logan Koslin, who delivered a grand slam to left field. This offensive surge put Mercyhurst ahead 6-4 after four innings.

Stonehill narrowed the margin in the fifth with a bases-loaded walk, making it 6-5. The sixth inning saw Stonehill reclaim the lead, scoring five runs. Three consecutive singles were hit to load the bases. A walk and a two-run single brought in two more. Elsig Chin and Nick Lundquist each contributed with an RBI, putting Stonehill up 10-6 after six innings.

In the eighth inning, the Lakers attempted a comeback. Logan Koslin was hit by a pitch and, after a pitching change, Jayden Walker's double brought Koslin home. A passed ball allowed Walker and Riley Ames to score, reducing the deficit. The Lakers trailed 12-9 after eight innings.

The game concluded with a 12-9 victory for Stonehill, as the Lakers could not score in the ninth inning. Final score: Stonehill 12, Mercyhurst 9.

Matthew Delvaux pitched 3.1 innings for the Lakers, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out two batters. He threw a total of 80 pitches, 48 of which were strikes, and gave up two home runs. Nolan Kirsch contributed 1.2 innings, striking out three batters and allowing one earned run on no hits but issued four walks. Zac Evenson pitched three innings, surrendering seven runs on seven hits, including two home runs, and ended with a loss, making his season record 1-1.

Logan Koslin delivered a powerful performance with a home run, a double, and four RBIs, scoring twice in the contest. Jayden Walker contributed two runs and two hits, including a double, and added an RBI. Mike Samarin tallied two hits and an RBI while scoring once. Ranciel Ventura added a hit, a stolen base, and scored a run.

Mercyhurst has a record of 4-11 and stands with a 4-3 record in the conference. Stonehill has a record of 4-13 and a 3-1 record in the conference.

In their next game, the Lakers will take the field at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 22, when they face Stonehill in a doubleheader. Game two to start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
