ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team continued their season after having a bye the previous week. They played at the Gannon Invitational taking on Gannon and Penn State Behrend, losing a close match to the Golden Knights 10-9 and a dominating match against the Lions 16-4.
Game One
In the first quarter, the Golden Knights got on the board scoring back-to-back goals, taking a 2-0 lead. Junior
Freya Green got on the board for the Lakers and narrowed the deficit to one.. Gannon responded 11 seconds later to push the lead back to two. With just under 10 seconds left, freshman Adrianna Boltes Moragues tallied a goal and junior
Marley Hanlon quickly added on with a goal to make the game 3-3 going into the second.
Gannon got on the board with just under six minutes to go in the second quarter. They proceeded to score a second goal, extending their lead back to two. Hanlon went onto to score her second goal of the game, keeping Mercyhurst close in the game. The Golden Knights proceeded to score two more goals with under 20 seconds left, taking a 7-4 lead entering halftime.
The third quarter had Gannon scoring a goal extending their lead to five, scoring two goals at the six minute mark, and the three minute mark. Sophomore

Krista Domaracki scored one of her own, keeping the Lakers within three heading to the fourth quarter,
In the first 20 seconds of the fourth quarter, freshman
Bailey Dunn got on the board to make the game 9-7. Gannon responded with just under six minutes left, pushing their lead to three. Dunn scored again 16 seconds later, getting the goal back for the Lakers. Moragues scored her second goal of the game with under a minute to play, but the Golden Knights held on to the lead, taking a 10-9 victory.
Game Two
In the first quarter, junior
Freya Green got on the board with under seven minutes to go for the Lakers with a goal. Freshman
Bailey Dunn got on the board to extend the lead to two. Green scored her second goal with less than two minutes to go, taking a 3-0 lead into half.
In the second quarter, fifth year
Alexa Corrao kept the offense rolling for Mercyhurst with a goal to extend the lead to four. Green scored her third goal of the game, giving her a hat trick on the day. The Lions got on the board with back-to-back goals, narrowing the Laker lead to three. Sophomore
Victoria Mastrangelo added on to give Mercyhurst a 6-2 lead. Dunn scored her second goal of the game, taking a five goal lead into the half.
In the third quarter, Penn State Behrend went on and scored a goal with just under seven minutes to go. Senior
Gina Adiutori extended the lead for Mercyhurst with her first of the game. Junior
Marley Hanlon added onto the offensive sprout by Mercyhurst. Mastrangelo scored her second goal of the game while freshman
Adriana Boltes Moragues got on the board, taking a 11-3 lead heading into the fourth.
Freshman
Kate Martin got on the board for the Lakers, extending their lead to nine. Corrao got on the board with her second of the game. The Lions scored another goal, keeping their deficit to single digits. Freshman
Joey Roedl scored her first of the game to push the lead to 10. Moragues scored her second goal of the game extending the Lakers' lead. Roedl scored her second with five seconds to go, helping the Lakers win 16-4.
The Lakers return to the pool when they compete in the Gannon Invitational when they play McKendree at 11 a.m. and Salem at 2 p.m.
