BOSTON – Atlantic Hockey America released their players of the month for January's slate of games. The Mercyhurst women's hockey team, recently ranked No. 14 in the nation, had a pair of athletes receive awards for the second consecutive month.
Julia Perjus was named the AHA Rookie of the Month for the second month in-a-row.
Magdalena Luggin was named the AHA Goaltender of the Month for the first time in her career.
Perjus (15G, 18A, 33 PTS) has had a tremendous start to her Laker career. She has been named AHA Rookie of the month twice and AHA Rookie of the Week once. She currently leads the team in goals and points. In January, the Stockholm, Sweden native scored five goals and recorded seven assists for 12 points. She had three powerplay goals, one shorthanded goal, and one game-winning goal. She scored the game-tying goal on the powerplay to take No. 4 Penn State to OT and then assisted the game-winner in OT. She went 107/171 on faceoffs, a 62.6% win percentage. She also recorded seven blocks, which puts her at 28 on the season and leads all Lakers forwards.
Luggin has been earning AHA honors since she began her Laker career in the 2024-25 season. The Vienna, Austria native has won AHA Goaltender of the Week four times this season and sixth of her career. Last year, she was named AHA Rookie of the Week once. This season, Luggin has played in 27 games and started in 26. She has a goals allowed average of 2.17, a record of 15-9-2, and a save percentage of .926. She made career-high saves against No. 5/6 Minnesota Duluth and No. 1 Wisconsin. Her 727 saves on the year are eighth in the nation.
In January, the sophomore netminder played in seven games with a 6-1-0 record. She made 178 saves, had a 1.70 goals allowed average, recorded one shutout, and registered a .939 save percentage. She also only allowed three goals on 24 powerplay attempts, or one goal every eight powerplays she faced.
