Wilson, Van Schaik Combine for 42 Points in 75-66 Home Victory over Central Connecticut State

ERIE, Pa. — The Mercyhurst women's basketball team secured a 75-66 victory over Central Connecticut State in a matinee matchup at the Mercyhurst Athletics Center, aided by 11 three-pointers.

Jenna Van Schaik and Sofia Wilson both posted 21 points in the win. Wilson drained five 3-pointers while adding six assists.
 
The game began with the Lakers (12-15, 12-4 NEC) taking an early lead by converting consecutive free throws from Erica Hall at 8:42, followed by a jumper from Jenna Van Schaik. Wilson contributed significantly, hitting two 3-pointers, the latter assisted by Hall, which widened the gap to 10-6 at 5:46.
 
The Green and Blue maintained its momentum with efficient shooting, including another 3-pointer by Van Schaik, extending its advantage. The quarter concluded with the Lakers ahead 21-16.
 
The Lakers seized control in the second quarter with a key scoring burst, highlighted by Wilson's three-pointer at 2:34, extending their lead to 33–27. Earlier in the quarter, Jenna Van Schaik also contributed with a three-pointer, assisted by Wilson, pushing the lead to 27–18, prompting a timeout from the Blue Devils.
 
Despite a late push by CCSU, including a quick layup by Lucia Noin, the Lakers finished the quarter ahead. The halftime score favored Mercyhurst 36–32.
 
Mercyhurst maintained its lead throughout the third quarter, capitalizing on key plays from Cici Hernandez and Van Schaik. Hernandez contributed a vital three-pointer at 6:26, assisted by Wilson, which helped to extend the lead to 46-38.
 
Van Schaik's fast-break three-pointer at 7:14, following her own layup, widened the gap further to 43-36. Although CCSU matched Mercyhurst's scoring output in the quarter, the Lakers concluded the quarter with a 57-53 lead.
 
The Lakers secured its victory with a decisive fourth quarter, maintaining composure to outscore the Blue Devils 18–13. Key contributions came from Wilson, who hit a crucial 3-pointer at 7:12, and Van Schaik, who added two layups in the final three minutes, strengthening the home team's lead.
 
The Lakers capitalized on their free-throw opportunities late in the quarter, with Hall sinking four successive shots from the line in the closing seconds. Mercyhurst finished the season series sweep of CCSU with a 75-66 win, improving to 12-4 in conference play.
 
The Lakers return to the hardwood Saturday when they host Stonehill. The Lakers are set to honor their four graduating seniors prior to the 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
