Germanich Takes Top Honors as Lakers Finish in 2nd at Niagara Spring Classic

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's bowling team traveled up I-90 to Niagara Falls to take part in the Niagara Brunswick Spring Classic over the weekend. After a pair of mid-board finishes in their first tournaments of 2026, the Lakers were looking to have a strong finish to the month of February, ultimately finishing in 2nd place out of 11 teams.
 
In Traditional competition, the Lakers opened with a close match against Wright State, but ultimately fell 938-895. The Lakers would go on to finish strong in their Traditional matches, winning the next 4 by considerable margins. Their first win of the day came against Roberts Wesleyan by a score of 933-880. This was followed by a resounding 1,030-806 win against Daemen, where Tia Germanich continued her strong stretch of play by rolling a team-best 247. The Blue and Green then battled against D'Youville and Penn State Behrend and came away with a pair of wins by scores of 855-774 and 993-914 respectively.
 
In Baker competition, the Lakers opened with a 1,037-975 win over host Niagara, but fell to Bryant 1,062-1,032 despite a strong showing from Tatiana Llera, who rolled a 246 in the match. Next, the Lakers would take on William Smith, against whom they were able to pull away with a 1,033-986 win. In their final Baker match of the night, the Laker squad took on Hilbert and were able to come away with a 986-851 win.
 
In Sunday's championship bracket, the Lakers entered the day listed as the 2nd seed and were slated to take on Bryant for the championship. After a closely fought 7-game series, Bryant came away with the 1st place finish, leaving the Lakers to take 2nd place.
 
The Lakers finished the weekend with a record of 7-3 and 10,261 total pins throughout all of their competition. They also finished with an average score of 197.3 per game.
 
Germanich came away with the tournament's top honor, finishing in 1st place out of 70 bowlers after collecting 1,142 total pins and an average score of 228.4 per game. Lily Watts also had a strong showing over the weekend. She finished in 23rd place and collected 895 pins as well as an average score of 179.0 per game. Llera rounded out the tournament top 25 with a 25th place finish, 869 pins and an average score of 173.8 per game.
 
The Lakers will wrap up their regular season competition in Wilmington, Delaware at the Northeast Roundup, which is slated to begin Saturday, March 7.
