Women's Bowling Finishes Fifth in Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Mercyhurst women's bowling team took part in the Northeast Region Roundup in Delaware over the weekend. After a strong in-conference finish at Niagara at the end of February, the Lakers were looking to finish the regular season on a high note in Wilmington. The Blue and Green came away with a 5th place finish out of 11 teams.
 
In Traditional competition, the Lakers dominated in a 924-638 win over Merrimack. The Lakers were led by Tia Germanich and Mackensie Livingston in this match, where each bowler rolled 210 and 211 respectively. The Lakers then took on fellow NEC member Wagner and came away with an impressive 839-654 victory, bringing their Saturday record to 2-0. Molloy was the next opponent on the docket for the Lakers, but the Hurst eventually fell 968-919. Competition host Wilmington fell to the Lakers after a resounding 226 performance in a Laker 917-849 victory. The Blue and Green took on Felician to round out their traditional matchups and Felician came out on top 1,059-894.
 
In Baker competition, the Lakers came away with a close 1,003-989 victory over Holy Family. Mercyhurst then took on Kutztown for their second Baker match but eventually fell in tight match 1,014-988. The Long Island Sharks would serve as the next opponent for the Lakers as the Blue and Green would come away with a close victory by a score of 807-768. The Lakers would finish their Baker matchups against Caldwell and would eventually fall 913-831.
 
In Sunday's championship bracket, the Lakers entered as the 5th seed and were matched up against 6th seed Holy Family. The Lakers came out hot and came away with 226-153 and 188-150 wins to open the series. After falling 194-172 in their third game, the Lakers pulled off another pair of wins, ultimately claiming the 5th place spot in the leaderboard.
 
The Lakers finished the weekend with a 6-4 record and 8,871 total pins throughout all of their competition. The Lakers also rolled to a team average of 177.4 per game.
 
Livingston led the Lakers in individual standings with an 18th place finish out of 65 bowlers. She managed to collect 911 pins and an average of 182.2 per game. Germanich finished 23rd in the tournament and collected 891 pins as well as an average of 178.2 per game. Briana Provenzano rounded out the tournament top 30 with a 30th place finish on the weekend. She collected 843 pins and an average of 168.60 per game.
 
The Lakers will now look forward to the NEC Championship tournament in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. The tournament is set to begin Friday, March 20 and conclude Sunday, March 22.
