STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Mercyhurst women's basketball team secured a 73-67 victory over Wagner in come-from-behind fashion in Staten Island, fueled by a career-high 29 points from
Jenna Van Schaik and a double-double from
Sofia Wilson. The Lakers capitalized on Wagner's turnovers, scoring 25 points off those opportunities.

Mercyhurst (10-15, 10-4 NEC) opened the game trailing early as Wagner took an 11-0 lead with a series of fast breaks and efficient scoring inside the paint. However, the Lakers found momentum with a 3-pointer by
Lena Walz at 6:20, followed by a fast-break 3-pointer by Van Schaik at 5:43, cutting the deficit to three.

Mercyhurst continued to rally with consistent free-throw shooting, eventually narrowing the gap to a single point by the end of the quarter. The first quarter concluded with Wagner holding a narrow 18-17 lead over the Green and Blue.

Mercyhurst started strong in the second quarter with Wilson contributing both a layup and a three-pointer within the first two minutes, keeping the score tight. However, Wagner's (11-14, 7-7 NEC) scoring surge, including multiple fast-break points and a series of successful free throws, extended its lead. Despite efforts from Van Schaik, who added key points in the paint and from the free-throw line, the Lakers trailed 47–33 at the half.

Mercyhurst surged in the third quarter, narrowing the gap with an 18-point effort.
Erica Hall sparked momentum with a 3-pointer at 7:20, followed by a defensive steal and subsequent layup from
Cici Hernandez to bring the score to 41–48.

Hernandez continued to impact the game, contributing seven points in the quarter, including a fastbreak layup assisted by her steal, cutting the deficit further. Despite Wagner's attempts to hold their lead, the Lakers trailed by just five points at 56–51 as the quarter concluded.

Mercyhurst gained momentum in the fourth quarter with a decisive run, highlighted by a key 3-pointer from Hernandez at 3:47, which put them ahead 64-63. Wilson's defensive prowess, including four steals, helped maintain their lead. Van Schaik contributed significantly in the closing minutes, scoring a fast-break layup at 1:10 and securing free throws to extend the advantage. The Green and Blue outscored Wagner 22-11 in the quarter, sealing a 73-67 victory.
