BOSTON – Atlantic Hockey America released their players of the week for Jan. 19 – Jan. 25 slate of games. This is the fifth week this season the Mercyhurst women's hockey team had more than one player of the week.
Magdalena Luggin was named the AHA Goaltender of the Week for the sixth time in her career.
Sofia Nuutinen was named the AHA Forward of the Week for the third time in her career.
Luggin was named the AHA Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time this season and sixth of her career. The native of Vienna, Austria has played in 26 games and started in 25. She has a 14-9-2 record, a 2.26 goals allowed average, and a save percentage of .924. Her 706 saves this season saves are 6th in the nation. This past weekend, Luggin made 54 total saves and only allowed two goals. Her average save percentage was .964. Earlier in the year, the Laker's sophomore netminder kept shutouts against No. 10 St. Lawrence and RIT in 2025 and posted a career-high 56 saves against No. 1 Wisconsin.
Nuutinen was named the AHA Forward of the Week for the second time this season and third time in her career. Nuutinen is no stranger to AHA awards. She has been named Rookie of the Week four times, Rookie of the Month twice, Rookie of the Year, and Forward of the Month once. This past weekend, the Vantaa, Finland native had four points vs. Robert Morris in game one. Here, she scored two goals and added two assists in the Laker's first 5-1 win. One of those goals was a powerplay goal and the other goal was the game-winner. Nuutinen (10G, 18A, 28 PTS) is second on the team in goals and assists, and third in points.
