ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's hockey team hosted RMU for their fourth series of the month. Last night, the Lakers dominated the Colonials, 5-1. RMU took the first lead of the afternoon, but the Lakers scored five unanswered goals to secure another 5-1 victory. This is the team's fifth straight win, third sweep of the month, and they had five different goalscorers for the sixth time this season.
Today's game began with Mercyhurst (18-10-2, 14-5-1 AHA) asserting early control by winning multiple faceoffs, including the opening one. They maintained offensive pressure with a series of shots by
Henlee Mahoney,
Abby Poitras, and others. Despite these efforts, Robert Morris (10-16-2, 6-10-2 AHA) capitalized on a power play opportunity and took an early lead. The Lakers responded effectively, taking advantage of a power play when
Julia Schalin scored with assists from
Payten Evans and
Holly VanNetten. The period concluded with both teams tied, setting the stage for a competitive continuation of play.
Mercyhurst seized momentum early in the second period with effective faceoff wins, creating opportunities and maintaining pressure.
Julia Perjus broke through at 10:49, scoring an even-strength goal assisted by Schalin, pushing the Lakers ahead 2-1. They extended their lead when
Jade Maisonneuve scored at 16:55, with an assist from

Despite RMU's attempts to close the gap, the Lakers maintained control throughout the period. Key defensive efforts, including multiple saves by Luggin, kept Robert Morris at bay. As the clock wound down, Mercyhurst's defense held firm, preserving a 5-1 victory at the final buzzer.
