LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team dropped their Thursday night contest to Kentucky, 3-0.
The Lakers' defense silenced the Wildcats for the first 37 minutes of the match. The first and only goal of the half came after the Wildcats capitalized on their 10
th corner. The Lakers broke out of their defensive half in the 30
th minute,
Anamari Bosnjak,
Ellie Mills,
Annabel Arhin, and
Caterina Cappiello strung together several passes to make it to the Wildcats' 18 yard box.
The Wildcats came out strong in the second half as they looked to extend their lead. They found their second goal less than four minutes into the half off a free kick. Their third and final goal was scored in the 60
th minute off a corner.
The Lakers did not let this deter them, as they looked to gain possession. The Lakers found themselves with more offensive opportunities in the second half.
Madison Sievering and Cappiello looked to make their presence known in the midfield.
Mills,
Isabella Fiorillo,
Camryn Klein and
Annabella Stoehr came up big defensively, blocking multiple shots on goal and holding the defensive unit down for all 90 minutes. They battled away nine shots.
Rylee Kumer made five saves for the Lakers, standing tall in goal.
The Lakers will continue their road trip, traveling to Nashville to take on Lipscomb Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
