DURHAM, N.H. – The Mercyhurst women's hockey team faced off against New Hampshire for game two of their first road series of the season.
Maja Alenius,
Jade Maisonneuve, and
Julia Perjus (2) all got on the scoresheet in the Laker's 4-0 victory over the Wildcats.
Tara Bach recorded 25 saves and a shutout in her the first game of her career.
The Lakers (2-2-0) took the lead over the Wildcats (0-2-0) midway through the first frame with a goal from Alenius at 13:50, marking her first career goal.
Makayla Javier and
Nayeon Kim were credited with the assists. Defensively,
Sofia Ljung and
Jessica Ciarrocchi made several crucial blocks alongside Bach's reflexive efforts in goal to keep the score at 1-0.
Mercyhurst extended its lead in the second frame with a pair of even-strength goals. Maisonneuve opened the scoring in the period at 5:12. This one came from
Berlin Lolacher's faceoff win, who dished it to Javier to set up the goal. Just under 25 seconds later.
Lexi Stanat found Kim, who then had a two versus one with Perjus. Perjus received the puck, found some space between the netminder's legs, and slotted it through to extend the lead. Javier and
Payten Evans blocked some more efforts from the Wildcats as this frame ended 3-0.
In the third period, the Lakers solidified their win with a goal from Perjus at 12:24, assisted by Javier and Ciarrocchi. This marked Perjus's second multi-goal game of the season. It also was Javier's third assist of the game, a career high. Bach continued to show out between the pipes as the Mercyhurst successfully blanked New Hampshire 4-0.
The Lakers return to the Mercyhurst Ice Center for their next series against #9 St. Lawrence. Puck drop for game one is set for Friday, Oct. 3 at 6:00 p.m.
