ERIE, Pa. – Mercyhurst Athletics is excited to welcome Jace Barnett as the newest Esports Head Coach and Athletic Administration Assistant.

"I am very excited to have this opportunity to lead the program, as Esports and Mercyhurst are two things I have been passionate about for much of my life" Barnett said. "I'm looking forward to expanding the program and to get more exposure on the Esports scene as it continues to grow rapidly worldwide" 
 
Staying at his alma mater, Barnett will lead the Mercyhurst Esports team, overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day operations, recruiting, and coaching.
 
The Erie native earned his degree in marketing from Mercyhurst and was a member of the Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society.
 
Barnett served as the assistant General Manager of the Erie Isles Esports Team from 2019 to 2021, assisting in coordinating player schedules, implementing player tryouts, and setting up competitions.
 
As the Esports coach, Barnett will coach the team in five different games: Valorant, Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, League of Legends, and Overwatch 2.
 
Last weekend, the Lakers competed in their first event of the year, claiming a 2-0 victory over New England College.
 
As the Athletic Administration Assistant, Barnett will help with the production of all broadcasts for Mercyhurst Athletics home games.
