HAMILTON, N.Y. — Mercyhurst fell 3-0 to Colgate on Saturday in a non-conference matchup. The Lakers held firm defensively but couldn't hold off a steady Raiders attack.
The first quarter was marked by a defensive stand from both teams, with the Lakers
Louise Pert recording three saves, including a key stops against a series of consecutive Colgate penalty corners. The Lakers had an offensive opportunity towards the end of the first from a penalty corner taken by
Maddie Huffer, but
Jen Kemp's subsequent shot was stopped by Colgate.
Ava Jones also registered a shot towards the end of the first. The quarter ended scoreless, with both defenses holding strong despite multiple fouls from both sides.
The second quarter began with a flurry of activity as
Catherine Hudak quickly attempted a shot one-minute into play, though it went wide. Colgate went on to score two unanswered goals to jump ahead. Despite Mercyhurst's efforts, including a shot from
Rachel Kosowski, the team was unable to break through Colgate's defense before the quarter closed.
The third quarter commenced with a defensive stance from the Lakers, highlighted by a series of crucial saves by Pert, notably stopping consecutive attempts from Colgate. Despite the strong defensive efforts, Colgate managed to find the net two-minutes into play, increasing their lead to 3-0. Despite a pair of penalty corner attempts from Colgate, Pert stood tall to close out the third.
The fourth quarter began with a strong defensive stand by the Lakers, as Colgate applied pressure with multiple penalty corners early on. Pert was instrumental in goal, making critical saves that maintained the scoreline. The remainder of the fourth remained scoreless as Colgate secured the home win.
