DETROIT - The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team began their eight-game stretch of away matches Sunday afternoon in Detroit. Detroit Mercy netted a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 victory over the Lakers.
The first 30 minutes of the match was stagnant, with each team tallying just one shot on frame. The Titans broke the deadlock in the 34th minute from a free kick. They almost added another in the 43rd minute, but
Mario Ganser did enough to put the attacker off-balance. A couple of bookings were shown toward the end of the half as the Titans led 1-0.
The Lakers found themselves in goal-scoring position early in the second half.
Alvar Silva fired a shot toward the upper right corner, but it was saved by the Titans' keeper. A few moments later, one of the Titans attackers launched one from deep that hit the crossbar in a moment of relief for the Lakers.
Another late shot from Detroit Mercy in the 83rd minute was sent over the bar due to more pressure from the backline. The Titans added their second goal of the game in the dying minutes to earn a 2-0 win.
The Lakers travel to St. Bonaventure next Sunday, Aug. 31.
