Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Two First Half Goals Not Enough for Women's Soccer at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Two goals in the first half were not enough to give Mercyhurst women's soccer a win over Oakland on Thursday. The Golden Grizzlies scored twice early in the second half to take a 4-2 victory over the Lakers.

The first 30 minutes in Rochester was exciting on both sides of the pitch. Oakland opened the scoring with a goal in the 24th minute of play. It didn't take long for the Lakers to strike back as Isabella Fiorillo netted her second collegiate goal just two minutes later in the 26th minute and the scoring didn't stop there.

Just after the Lakers scored their first goal, the Grizzlies rebounded with a goal less than a minute later. Caterina Cappiello wouldn't let the Grizzlies savor their lead for long, scoring her first goal with Mercyhurst in the 28th minute of action, Nathalie Dediu notched her first assist.

The rest of the half stayed quiet from both sides, Oakland out shooting Mercyhurst 10-6. Adri Lika picked up four saves in the first 45.

Oakland found the back of the net quickly going into the second half, finding two goals in the first four minutes extending their lead 4-2. The Lakers fought hard to equalize the score sheet, but couldn't capitalize on their three chances in the second half.

Lika finished the match with eight saves. Anamari Bosnjak, Madison Sievering, Fiona Fraser, and Dediu all tallied a shot on goal.

The Lakers will be back at Saxon Stadium Sunday Aug. 24 against Duquesne.
