Men’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw in Home Opener vs RMU

ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team hosted Robert Morris in their home opener Thursday evening at Saxon Stadium. The teams combined for 16 total shots, but neither squad could find the back of the net.

The first real action of the game came in the 12th minute when Jacob Conti got down quickly to make a save at the left side of his goal. Much of the first half was back-and-forth without any real chances on net.

Before the half, Santiago Giraldo rifled a shot toward the top right corner. The Colonials keeper was quick to react and got a hand on it. Both teams combined for four shots in the first half.

The Lakers came out of the locker room with energy and quick passes going forward. In the 47th minute, Alvar Silva fired a shot from the top of the penalty box that narrowly missed the far post. The first booking of the match came from RMU's Matthew Eckersall. This was one of three yellow cards shown.

One of the final efforts came from Marcel Duffau in the remaining six minutes of the match. Duffau curled a shot toward the goal but couldn't break the deadlock. A defensive onslaught resulted in a 0-0 draw and a point for both sides.

The Colonials led the corner kick battle 5-2. However, Mercyhurst dominated control of the ball with 62% possession.

The Lakers travel to Michigan this Sunday, Aug. 24 to take on Detroit Mercy.
