Johnson City, TN – Today was the final day of the Softball team's Spring Break trip at East Tennessee State. A late surge from the Lakers in the top of the seventh was not enough to overtake the Bucs as they fell 7-3.
How it Happened
Mercyhurst's first scoring opportunity started with
Karlie Kasten hitting a single to third base. Kasten eventually made her way to third base with
Jazlynn Sanders at bat. However, senior pitcher Sara Muir brought her best pitches today and struck out Sanders to save a run.
ETSU brought in the first run in the first inning off of a single to right field from Makayla Veglia. They went on to add six more runs up through the fifth inning. At the end of the fifth, Cameron Young had made it to third base as the Bucs were up 7-0. Taylor Suchy hit a fly ball to left field that
Karlie Kasten caught to save the Lakers from being run ruled.
In the top of the seventh, the Lakers were determined to avoid a shutout.
Shailene Riemedio,
Jenna Wojtkowiak, and
Alexandra Acosta-Reyes all scored runs to make the score 7-3. Unfortunately, the seven-run deficit was too steep to overcome as the Lakers fell to the Bucs.
Highlights
Jenna Wojtkowiak recorded three hits and one run in three at bats today.
Sara Muir pitched six innings without giving up a run for the Bucs.
