Lakers Hit Well in Losses to Red Foxes and Bonnies

Johnson City, TN – The Mercyhurst Softball team played two games this afternoon as they remain on their Spring Break trip. The Lakers scored nine total runs today, with more players getting hits than the day before. However, they were unable to withstand the offensive onslaught that Marist and St. Bonaventure University brought to the plate.

Game One
The first game of the afternoon for the Lakers was a rematch against Marist University. The Red Foxes struck first, with runs brought in from Peyton Pusey, Haley Ahr, and Ronnie Howard. It was in the bottom of the second when Jazlynn Sanders stepped up the plate. On a 1-2 count, Sanders hit an absolute bomb to right field for her second home run of the season. This brought in Bailey Cannon and at this point the score was 3-2, with the Lakers cutting away at the lead.

The Red Foxes slugging proved to be too much for the Lakers as they went on to hit two home runs in the next three consecutive innings and again in the seventh.  Marist scored at least one run in each inning and ended up winning 13-3. This was their seventh win in a row, having just beat St. Bonaventure 10-0 in the noon game earlier today.

Game Two
The game between Mercyhurst and St. Bonaventure was nothing short of a slugfest. The Bonnies immediately started the game with dynamite in their bats. They put up nine runs in the first three innings before Mercyhurst could get a hit. Finally, in the bottom of the fourth, Cameryn Mullaly hit a nice triple down the right field line to allow Shailene Riemedio to score. The Bonnies out up two more in the top of the fifth. The Lakers were now down 11-1 and trying not to get run ruled.

Natasha McLellan-Tam, Jazlynn Sanders, and Emelie Pascual all hit doubles that brought in four total runs and kept the game alive. A deadlocked sixth inning kept the score 11-5 heading into the top of the seventh inning. The Bonnies did not let up as they scored three more runs. Shailene Riemedio singled to the shortstop to bring in Jazlynn Sanders, but that was all the Lakers could come up with as the Bonnies won 14-6. There were 25 total hits during this game.

Combined Highlights
Jazlynn Sanders recorded three runs, three RBIs, two doubles, and a home run.
Natasha McLellan-Tam registered two hits and two RBIs.
Cameryn Mullaly hit her first triple of the season which resulted in an RBI.
The Lakers had eight different players record a hit in the game against St. Bonaventure, the most in a game this season.
