Johnson City, TN – The Mercyhurst Softball team is currently in Eastern Tennessee competing in the Buccaneer Classic for their Spring Break trip. They were up against the Buccaneers of East Tennessee State University for their first game. The Lakers took the lead midway through the game, but the Bucs fought back to secure a 5-3 victory.
How it Happened
ETSU got on the scoresheet first. In the bottom of the first, Makayla Veglia doubled to left center field which allowed Cameron Young to score the first run of the game. The Lakers scored next, in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman
Jazlynn Sanders hit a three-run bomb to right center field that brought in
Cameryn Mullaly and
Bailey Cannon. This was Sanders first homerun of the season and gave the Lakers a 3-1 lead.
The Bucs found a way back in the bottom of the fifth. Cameron Young singled down the infield line that allowed to Leinani Lutu to score. This gave the Bucs momentum. Taylor Suchy hit a single which led to Tiare Reiger scoring her first run of the game to tie the game 3-3. Makayla Veglia then hit her second RBI of the game to give the Bucs a 4-3 lead. The Lakers were unable to get anything back as the Bucs scored again in the bottom of the sixth to give them a 5-3 win.
