Staten Island, NY – Today featured game three of the Mercyhurst Softball team's first NEC series of the season. Defensively, both teams played well. However, a couple late runs from Wagner were enough for them to complete the series win with a 2-0 victory today.
How it Happened
Today's game was held at a 0-0 deadlock for the first five innings. Karson Zavala started in the circle for Wagner and
Lauren Henrich started in the circle for Mercyhurst. There were only six hits in these first five innings. Both pitchers were throwing well and both teams were strong defensively.
The Seahawks scored the first runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Geanice Morales scored the first run from Taylor Reynold's single to left field. Lea Rachal scored the second run, and the score was 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh.
Alexandra Acosta-Reyes hit a double that gave the Lakers some hope for a comeback. However, they were unable to create anything else as the Seahawks shut out the Lakers 2-0.
