Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Lacrosse team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell 15-12 to the LIU Sharks on Saturday afternoon at Saxon Stadium. The Lakers mounted a second-half comeback but were unable to complete the rally as LIU held on for the victory.
How It Happened:
The game started with LIU taking control early, scoring three unanswered goals in the opening eight minutes. Mercyhurst responded late in the quarter, getting on the board with a goal from DJ Neer at 6:21, followed by Antonio Rossetti's goal with 18 seconds left, cutting the deficit to 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.
LIU extended their lead in the second quarter with a six-goal surge, including back-to-back goals from Owen Stefanko and a man-up goal from Ben Schuster, giving the Sharks a 9-3 lead. Mercyhurst fought back with goals from Robert Madden and Ryan Mahoney but still trailed 9-4 at halftime.
The Lakers came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring LIU 5-3 in the frame. Burke Eaheart opened the quarter with a man-down goal, and Ethan Landymore scored twice, cutting the deficit to 12-9 entering the fourth quarter.
Mercyhurst kept up the pressure in the final frame, with Landymore scoring again at 13:27 and Robert Madden netting his third goal at 4:44, bringing the Lakers within 14-12. However, Cameron Connolly's late goal at 3:23 sealed the victory for LIU, handing Mercyhurst a hard-fought loss.
