Men's Lacrosse Topped by RMU

ERIE, Pa. — The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team fell to RMU 18–5 in a conference match on Saturday at Saxon Stadium. Despite the loss, the Lakers managed to score five goals, with three coming in the final quarter.

The game commenced with the Lakers securing the initial faceoff, but turnovers and missed opportunities hindered their offensive momentum. Despite a strong effort from Tyler Moritzen with several key saves, the team struggled to convert shots into goals. The Colonials capitalized on these opportunities, scoring four consecutive goals, including one by Ben Eck at 11:03 and another by Luke Prezioso at 00:59. The first quarter concluded with the Lakers trailing 4–0.

The Lakers faced a challenging second quarter as RMU's offensive momentum took control. Despite a good start with a successful clear at 14:11 and a blocked shot by Chase Petschke at 12:39, the team struggled to find the net. Robert Morris capitalized on their opportunities, with Luis Gonzalez scoring early at 11:20, followed by consecutive goals from Dylan Anderson, Joel McCormick, Tommy Linehan, and Tommy Mullikin, increasing their lead significantly. Despite a timeout at 8:26 and a subsequent extra-man opportunity, the Lakers were unable to convert their shots into goals. The quarter ended with the team trailing 10–0.

The Green and Blue found some momentum in the third quarter with a goal by Robert Madden at 6:56, assisted by Keenan De Wit. Despite a series of missed opportunities and wide shots, the team managed to break through the defensive line again when Chase Gottstein scored with just 19 seconds left on the clock. However, the Colonials maintained their lead throughout the quarter, adding five goals of their own. The game concluded with a score of Robert Morris 15, Mercyhurst 2.

The Lakers displayed resilience in the fourth quarter by responding to an early goal from Robert Morris with a series of successful plays. Darrin Santos led the charge, scoring twice in quick succession at 6:23 and 6:06, with assists from Cole Rembielak and Drew Pagano. Dan Buckley added another goal at 3:53, assisted by Madden, closing the scoring for the quarter. Despite the effort, Robert Morris managed to net three goals of their own, with Tommy Linehan and Dylan Garcia contributing late in the quarter. The final score was 18–5 in favor of RMU.

Madden contributed significantly to the offense with one goal and one assist on eight shots, five of which were on target. Santos was a key scorer, posting two goals from six shots, including three on goal. Gottstein efficiently added to the tally by converting his single shot for a goal. Buckley also found the net, scoring once on two shots, both of which were on target.

The Lakers will continue their home stint next weekend as they host Detroit Mercy for senior day and the 30th anniversary of Mercyhurst lacrosse.
