Erie, PA.- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team claimed another conference win Thursday night vs. Chicago State University in an overtime-thriller, 76-69. Lauryn Stover drove home a win for the Lakers in the extra five minutes, where she hit two threes and a layup to secure the game.
How It Happened:
The Lakers were able to pull off the win in the Women in Sports Celebratory Game after a tough first four quarters. Scoring was even for the first 40 minutes. Though Mercyhurst was in the lead for the bulk of the game, CSU was able to keep play competitive.
The game finally took a turn in overtime as Mercyhurst's Lauryn Stover had a break out five minutes, her offensive efforts along with those of Allyson Ross and Jenna Van Schaik ensured a win on their home-court.
Van Schaik lead Mercyhurst in scoring as she totaled 24 points for the evening. She was followed by Stover, with 14, then Ross and Grace Clary who each put up 12. Ross had a double-double, her 12 points combining with 11 rebounds.
Highlights:
Mercyhurst had six Lakers sink threes for nine total on the night, largely contributing to the win in clutch moments, Ross, Van Schaik, and Stover having two each.
Allyson Ross lead over both teams in rebounds, with 11, and assists, with 7.
