Chicago, Ill.- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team dropped their final game on the road, falling to Chicago State University 77-63. Though the Lakers struggled to keep up with CSU's quick attack, they were able to close the deficit in the final ten minutes.
How It Happened:
The Lakers struggled in Thursday's game from start to finish. Though they each quarter trailing CSU, there were still positive aspects to Mercyhurst's game. In the first quarter alone, three Lakers sunk one from distance, whereas CSU only scored 2 threes the entire game. Mercyhurst went on to score four more in the last two quarters of the game, earning a large portion of their points for the evening from beyond the arc. We saw these shots drained by Allyson Ross, Bailey Kuhns, and Grace Clary, Clary leading with three.
Though Chicago State was able to run up the score coming out of the break, primarily earning their points in the paint and showing consistency from the free throw line when the game got physical, Mercyhurst's resilience helped them close the over twenty-point deficit by the final whistle. In the final ten minutes, Mercyhurst scored two back-to-back layups by Clary and Kuhns to get things started. They then went on to go 2/2 from the line four times in a row, capitalizing on any scoring opportunities they could get.
Though they fought hard for the entirety of the game, the Lakers were unable to earn the road win, ultimately falling to CSU 77-63.
Highlights:
Seven Lakers got on the board this evening, Kuhns heading the charge with 20 points. She was trailed closely by Ross with 15 points and Clary with 13 points. Ross led the team in rebounds (7) as well as assists (5), an impressive performance for the senior guard.
