Box Score Erie, Pa.— The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team wrapped up their season at home, falling to Saint Francis University 80-65. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Lakers were unable to keep pace with SFU's efficient offense.
How It Happened:
The Lakers kept things competitive in the first quarter, with Allyson Ross and Bailey Kuhns each knocking down early shots to keep Mercyhurst within striking distance. However, SFU's aggressive play in the paint and strong rebounding gave them a slight edge, closing the quarter ahead by four.
In the second quarter, Mercyhurst struggled to contain SFU's transition game, allowing a series of fast-break points that extended the deficit. Although the Lakers found success beyond the arc, including key three-pointers from Grace Clary, SFU maintained control, heading into halftime with a 38-32 lead.
Coming out of the break, SFU continued to push the pace, capitalizing on turnovers and second-chance opportunities to further widen the gap. Mercyhurst fought back late in the third quarter, stringing together back-to-back baskets from Kuhns and Ross, but SFU's efficiency at the free-throw line kept them in command.
In the final ten minutes, Mercyhurst showed resilience, with Clary and Kuhns leading a late push to cut the deficit to single digits. However, SFU responded with a strong defensive stand and timely scoring to close out the game, securing the 80-65 victory.
