Lakers Set to Close 2025 Campaign

2/26/2025 12:00:00 PM

Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst will close their first ever season Division I season tomorrow when they welcome Chicago State to town. The Lakers are looking to close the season on a high note as they aim for back-to-back wins to close the 2025 season. As things sit, the Lakers will more than likely finish third in the conference in their first year.

Lakers Rolling:
The Lakers have had a pretty successful season in their first year at the Division I level. They'll finish under .500 no matter what, but a win would have them finish at 9-7 in conference play. Chicago State is one of two NEC foes they haven't defeated to this point. Chicago State upset Mercyhurst just a few weeks back, but the Lakers will be looking to get a measure of revenge. Graduate Student Jeff Planutis will see his collegiate career come to an end on Thursday as well. He needs just one minute of play to go over 1,000 minutes on the season. Planutis has scored a team-high 450 points this season and averaged 15 a game. He'll be looking to close his time at Mercyhurst with a bang. Senior Aidan Reichert will also aim to finish this season on a high note. He's scored 412 points and grabbed a team-high 155 rebounds.

Scouting Chicago State:
Chicago State has picked up just four total wins this year, with all of them coming in conference play. One of those wins came against the Lakers in Chicago. But no matter what happens on Thursday, the team is bound for the NEC tournament. They'll be looking to Jalen Forrest, who has averaged 12.3 points a game to help them finish the season with some momentum.

Next Game:
The Lakers will close the season at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday when they face off with Chicago State. Come enjoy some $2 beer or catch the action on the NEC Front Row.
