Lakers Take First Place at Brunswick Spring Classic

Kenmore, NY.- Mercyhurst grabbed their second first place finish of the season this weekend at Brunswick Spring Classic. The Lakers went 7-2 on the weekend as they continue to build momentum as they head towards their first NEC Championship weekend.   
 
How it Happened:
The Lakers kicked off the weekend with a 846-792 loss to Merrimack. It was their lone loss of the first day as they followed it up with four straight wins. They took down Hilbert in their second game by a margin of 881 to 877. Nikki Lemponen continued her impressive season as she rolled a 209, which was key in the narrow win. In their third game, Delaney Rossette followed up Lemponen's performance with a 210 in their 950-835 win over William Smith. Rossette topped that mark immediately after with a team high 248 in their 1,006-907 win over Roberts Wesleyan. The Lakers finished the day off with a 918-793 victory over Pitt-Bradford.
 
In the Baker portion, Mercyhurst took down Daemen 895-876 in their first matchup. They followed that up with a 945-771 victory over Erie rival, Penn State Behrend. They rounded things out with a 959-953 loss to D'Youville. The Lakers capped the weekend with a big 1,147-1,029 win over Niagara to win the Classic.
 
Rossette finished third overall at the event as she rolled an average of  201.20. That included her high of 248 that helped Mercyhurst grab a key win. Lemponen rolled an average of 197.60, which was good enough to take sixth at the event.
 
Next Tournament:
Mercyhurst will have just one more competition before they travel to Hamiliton, NJ. to compete in the NEC Championship. They'll make their way to the Northeast Roundup on March 15th.
