Worcester, Mass. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team battled hard but fell 7-3 to Holy Cross on Wednesday night at the Hart Center. Despite a strong first-period performance, the Lakers couldn't contain the Crusaders' offensive surge in the final frame.
How It Happened:
Holy Cross struck first just 40 seconds into the game, as Mack Oliphant put the Crusaders ahead. Mercyhurst quickly responded at 00:56, when Matteo Disipio netted the equalizer off a feed from Trent Sambrook.
The Crusaders regained the lead at 2:18, with Liam McLinskey scoring his 19th goal of the season, but the Lakers answered back once again at 4:41 as Ryan Coughlin finished a setup from Mickey Burns and Disipio, tying the game at 2-2 heading into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, Holy Cross broke the tie at 10:23 of the third period on a goal from Matt DeBoer, only for Will Margel to respond for Mercyhurst at 11:59, assisted by Steven Agriogianis.
However, the Crusaders took control in the final stretch, scoring four unanswered goals in the last seven minutes. Jack Stockfish netted the game-winner at 13:03, followed by Michael Abgrall (15:15), Liam McLinskey (17:06, empty net), and William Elias (18:39, short-handed empty net) to seal the 7-3 win for Holy Cross.
