Mercyhurst Set for Pair of NEC Battles

2/12/2025 12:14:00 PM

Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst is ready to get back in action as they prep for their final road trip of the season. The Lakers will take on the conference leader in Central Connecticut State before they make the trip to Massachusetts to take on Stonehill. The Lakers will be looking to remain hot as they've been winners in six of their last eight contests.

Lakers Rolling:
The Lakers are looking to turn things around on the road to close out their time on the road in the 2024-2025 season. Mercyhurst is 4-12 when playing away from Erie this season, which marks the second straight season that they have a losing record on the road. But they're hoping to close out the road portion of their schedule with some big wins. They'll be lead by Senior Aidan Reichert and Graduate Student Jeff Planutis. The duo has combined for nearly 29 points a game and they've been dominant in almost every game this season. Senior Bernie Blunt III has also been putting up 12 points a game and has a team-high 43 steals. Shemar Rathan-Mayes continues to dish the rock well and he has 105 assists on the season, which is 61 more than the next closest player on the Lakers.

Scouting Central Connecticut State:
CCSU looks determined to make it to the dance this season as they've been hot from the go. They've lost just two conference games this season, and they've won six in row. They're paced by Jordan Jones and Devin Haid, who have accounted for over 600 points combined this season. The Blue Devils have four player who have scored over 200 points as well. But the Lakers will need to shut down Jones and Haid to walk away with the upset win.

Scouting Stonehill:
The Lakers topped Stonehill in their first ever meeting to open NEC play. Since then, the squads have gone 6-5 and 4-5, respectfully. Stonehill has lost their last two and three of their last four. But they're still a dangerous squad who will be looking to turn things around. Mercyhurst will be looking to shut down Todd Brogna and Louie Semona, who are both averaging 12 points a game.

Next Game:
The Lakers will begin their final road trip on Thursday as they take on CCSU at 7:00 pm. The action can all be caught on the NEC Front Row.
