MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Mercyhurst women's basketball team took on their third ranked opponent of the nonconference slate at No. 25 West Virginia Friday. Eria Hall and
Sofia Wilson each scored a career-high in the 97-51 loss to the Mountaineers.

Hall recorded 13 points on an efficient 5-of-6 from the floor and 3-of-3 from 3-point range. Wilson poured in 14, shooting 50 percent from the floor.

The game began with West Virginia applying strong early pressure, establishing control with a series of successful inside plays. The Lakers faced challenges with turnovers throughout the quarter but found a bright spot when Wilson drained a 3-pointer at 3:55, putting them on the scoreboard. Hall added another 3-pointer at 1:11, assisted by
Cici Hernandez, to contribute to the Lakers' offensive efforts. WVU led 23-6 after the first stanza.

In the second, the Lakers struggled with turnovers but showed resilience late. After a series of turnovers allowed West Virginia to extend their lead, the Lakers found some momentum with
Alena Fusetti's fast-break layup at 7:14 and a defensive rebound by
Ella Cupka leading to her own layup at 6:41. Fusetti capped the quarter by knocking down a 3-pointer with 19 seconds left. The period ended with West Virginia ahead 49–18.

The Lakers gained momentum early in the third quarter with
Jenna Van Schaik scoring a layup assisted by
Gabby Sweeney at 9:21. Hall's three-pointer further fueled their efforts, contributing to a 20-point quarter.

In the final quarter, the Lakers attempted to close the gap, highlighted by Wilson's 3-pointer from an assist by Van Schaik at 8:30, trimming the deficit to 81–41. Wilson continued to contribute offensively, adding a layup at 5:58 and two free throws at 1:42. West Virginia maintained control, and the Lakers were unable to bridge the gap. The game concluded with West Virginia securing the win, 97–51.
