Wilson's Career-High 23 Not Enough as Women's Basketball Falls to St. Bonaventure, 60-57

ERIE, Pa. —The Mercyhurst women's basketball team fell to St. Bonaventure, 60-57, in a tightly contested matchup that featured four ties and five lead changes, coming down to the final seconds of play. The Lakers sank 12 three-pointers, while freshman Sofia Wilson scored a career-high 23 points, beating her previous high of 14 set at West Virginia.

The Lakers started the first quarter with Shannon Heine nailing a 3-pointer at 7:43, assisted by Cici Hernandez, to open the scoring. Jenna Van Schaik added to the effort with a layup at 5:18, briefly giving the Green and Blue the lead at 8–6. Alena Fusetti extended the lead with another 3-pointer at 4:40. Despite the Green and Blue's defensive efforts, including a block by Erica Hall, St. Bonaventure's Laycee Drake countered with a series of points, securing a 12–8 advantage for the visitors by the end of the quarter.

The Lakers (0-9) seized control early in the second quarter with Wilson's three-pointer at 9:17, taking the lead 12–11. The team continued to apply pressure with Heine's three-pointer at 4:43, extending the advantage to 25–20. Despite St. Bonaventure's attempts to close the gap, the Lakers maintained their momentum with a final push led by Wilson's layup at 3:41 and a subsequent three-pointer at 1:25, securing a 31–24 lead. The quarter concluded with the Lakers leading 34–29, contributing to a home quarter score of 23–15 over St. Bonaventure.

The Green and Blue faced a challenging third quarter as St. Bonaventure (9-3) surged with a series of paint points, including a layup by Aaliyah Parker at 2:19 that extended their lead. Despite Wilson's three-pointer at 1:31 that brought some momentum back to the home team, but the visitors maintained control. The quarter concluded with a 19–7 advantage for the Bonnies, and the score stood at 46–38 in favor of St. Bonaventure after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, the Lakers made a determined push led by Wilson's early 3-pointer at 9:43, narrowing the gap. The Bonnies maintained a five-point lead throughout the fourth quarter, but a late 3-pointer by Heine cut the game to two with 12 seconds remaining.

After an SBU timeout, the Lakers fouled Parker who went 1-of-2 at the charity stripe, keeping the Lakers within three. Wilson got a look at a 3-point shot to tie the game as time expired but couldn't connect.
