EMMITSBURG, Md. — The Mercyhurst women's basketball team fell to Mount St. Mary's, 81-52, in the penultimate nonconference contest for the Lakers.
Erica Hall led the team with a career-high 26 points, converting 11-of-13 field goals and adding nine rebounds.
Cici Hernandez contributed 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers and recording four assists.
The game began with Mount St. Mary's (4-5) taking an early lead, but the Lakers responded with key plays to stay competitive. Hall provided a strong contribution, scoring a layup at 6:43 and a 3-pointer at 2:13. Despite efforts to close the gap, the Lakers faced challenges with turnovers, resulting in a 21-12 deficit at the end of the first quarter.
Mercyhurst sparked momentum with
Alena Fusetti's 3-pointer at 9:37, narrowing the gap after a Mount St. Mary's jumper. Hall added a critical layup at 1:28, assisted by Wilson, to maintain offensive pressure. Despite the Lakers' strong efforts in the paint, Mount St. Mary's answered with a series of 3-pointers that maintained their lead. The second quarter concluded with Mount St. Mary's leading 39–28. Hall tallied 22 points in the first half, besting her previous career best of 13 set at West Virginia.
The Lakers (0-10) fought to narrow the gap in the third quarter with a notable surge led by Hernandez, who hit a crucial 3-pointer at 6:35, assisted by
Ella Cupka. This was followed by a fast-break layup and an additional free throw by Hall at 6:15, cutting into Mount St. Mary's lead. Despite these efforts, the Mount maintained their advantage, finishing the quarter ahead 56–40.
Mercyhurst made efforts to shift the momentum in the fourth quarter with Wilson hitting an early 3-pointer at 8:25 and providing an assist for a Hernandez 3-pointer at 3:59. The Lakers were uable to shift the momentum in the fourth, falling 81-52.
The Lakers are back in action Friday at Syracuse for the nonconference finale.
