Premo Scores First Goal in Lakers Win Against Fredonia

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's AAU team hosted the Fredonia Blue Devils Sunday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center for a UNYCHL matchup. The Lakers were looking to make a statement and earn their first home win of the season.
 
Conner Racette got the start in net for the Lakers, his 3rd of the year.
 
In the 1st period, Thomas Edwards opened the scoring for the Lakers when he scored his 4th goal of the season, with the assist coming from Ethan Premo, his 2nd of the season. Premo then scored his first collegiate goal at 13:50 thanks to a feed from Christopher Trokey. Senior Anthony Clark scored his first goal of the season soon after off a stellar rush play from Braydan McGarry. Trevor Keenan also scored his first goal of the season at 6:52 with the feed coming from Grant Butts. The Lakers held a 4-0 lead heading into the 2nd period.
 
In period 2, the Lakers got an early power play, but the Blue Devils managed to score a short-handed goal at 16:05. Fredonia then earned another short-handed scoring opportunity and promptly capitalized, bringing the score to 4-2. It would take another goal from Fredonia to force the Lakers to answer with one of their own. Sophomore Jake Moran scored his first goal of the year with the assist coming from Butts, his 2nd of the game. The Blue Devils would then answer with a pair of goals to round out the score tied at 5-5.
 
In the 3rd period, Edwards scored his 2nd goal of the game, with Butts and Premo supporting with the assists at 18:04. Senior forward Colin Barry would then drive the final nail in the coffin and score his first goal of the season at 6:20 with the assist coming from Seamus Gentile-Ovens, his first assist of the season.
 
The Lakers would win the league matchup 7-5, their first of the year.
 
Racette stopped 24 of 29 shots faced, earning his first win of the year.
 
The Lakers will next host St. Bonaventure Friday, November 7 before hitting the road to face off against Allegheny and Fredonia Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9.
