Men's AAU Falls to Bonnies and Fredonia

11/11/2025 11:31:00 AM

ERIE, Pa. – The Lakers hosted St. Bonaventure and traveled to Fredonia, N.Y. over the weekend. The Blue and Green looked to continue their momentum from an exciting win against the Blue Devils the previous weekend.

Freshman goaltender Owen Morgan got the start for the Lakers versus the Bonnies, his 3rd start of the season.

The Bonnies scored early with a pair of goals coming under 2 minutes into the opening frame. The Lakers were then able to respond at the 15-minute mark with Kason Tai scoring his 1st goal of the season. The assists came from Blake Cusse, his 2nd, and Thomas Edwards, his 4th of the season. Edwards would soon score his 6th goal of the season at 11:17, with his assists coming from Evan Husarek and Ryan Trokey. Despite a pair of penalties for the Lakers in the period, the score would remain 2-2 heading into intermission.

In the 2nd period, the Lakers would be sent to the penalty box, which would open the door for the Bonnies to score a pair of early power play goals. St. Bonaventure would then score another pair of goals throughout the remainder of the period, with one coming with under a minute left on the clock, leaving the score at 6-2.

In the 3rd period, both teams spent significant time in the penalty box, and this halted the Laker momentum for the remainder of the game. The Bonnies netted another pair of goals to round out the scoring.

The Lakers would fall 8-2 with Morgan stopping 32 of 40 shots.

The Blue and Green then traveled north to the campus of SUNY Fredonia for a league matchup against the Blue Devils.

The Lakers were looking to complete the season sweep against Fredonia. Conner Racette got the start in net for the Lakers, his 6th of the year.

In the 1st period, both teams held their own and kept the score at 0-0 despite a Laker opportunity on the power play at 9:03. The Blue Devils scored a pair of quick goals at 4:41 and 4:23, but the Hurst was able to quickly respond. Brayden McGarry scored his 5th goal of the season at 3:48 thanks to a feed from Trevor Keenan, his 5th assist of the year. The Lakers would be on the penalty kill for most of the rest of the period, but they were able to keep Fredonia at bay heading into the 2nd period.

In the 2nd period, the Lakers were unable to score any goals despite having chances on the power play while Fredonia scored 3 of their own. Morgan came in to relieve Racette with 5 minutes left to go in the 2nd period and would stay in for the remainder of the game.

The Blue Devils would score a pair of early goals in the 3rd period, one of which was short-handed. Jake Moran was able to score his 3rd goal of the season, but it was not enough to spark the Mercyhurst offense. Fredonia would score a late power play goal that finished the game at 8-2.

The Lakers will next host Gannon on Wednesday, November 12th at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Puck drop set for 8 PM.
