Lakers Light It Up in Saturday Win at the MAC

ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst men's basketball used a blistering offensive performance and a dominant first half to power past Morgan State, 86–72, on Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The win moves the Lakers to 3–2 on the season.

The Lakers opened the game with a strong offensive performance, quickly establishing momentum with Mykolas Ivanauskas contributing crucial points in the paint. A significant moment came five minutes in the first when Ivanauskas hit a three-pointer, assisted by Christian Gamble, extending their lead.

Throughout the half, the Lakers capitalized on turnovers, converting them into fast break points, highlighted by Deshaun Jackson Jr.'s layup seven minutes into play. The Lakers led 42–24 at the end of the first half, showcasing a balanced attack and effective defense.

The Lakers extended their advantage with an early three-pointer from Bernie Blunt III two minutes into the second half, maintaining control of the game. Their offensive efficiency was highlighted by Blunt and Ivanauskas, who combined for crucial baskets that built and sustained their lead. Despite the Bears' efforts to close the gap, including several free throws and a late layup, the Lakers' consistent scoring — including a notable finish by Qadir Martin in the final minute — secured their second-half dominance. The game concluded with the Lakers prevailing 86–72.

Blunt scored 19 points and tallied five assists, making three of eight attempts from beyond the arc. Ivanauskas posted 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field. Jake Lemelman contributed 18 points, converting three of four three-pointers. Martin was perfect from the field, finishing with 12 points and adding three blocks.

Next, the Lakers hit the road again as they head to Miami (OH) on Wednesday, November 20 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
