OXFORD, Ohio — Mercyhurst University fell to Miami University (OH) 76–71 in a closely contested matchup at Millett Hall. The Lakers led at six different points during the game, but the Redhawks capitalized on free-throw opportunities, converting 26 of 31 attempts to secure the win. Despite the Lakers' 32 points in the paint and a 32–30 rebounding edge, Miami (OH)'s advantage at the line proved decisive.
The game opened with Miami (OH) jumping out to an early lead before the Lakers responded with efficient perimeter shooting. Christian Gamble knocked down a three-pointer in the 17th minute, assisted by Jake Lemelman, to cut into the deficit.
Mercyhurst continued to assert itself on the offensive glass, collecting 10 offensive rebounds, but the Redhawks' interior scoring helped them maintain control. Lemelman provided a lift late in the half with a key three-pointer and a pair of free throws. The Lakers went into halftime trailing 37–29.
Mercyhurst surged in the second half, highlighted by a strong stretch from Qadir Martin. Martin powered inside for layups in the 18th minute on two separate possessions, and Lemelman added another three-pointer in the 17th minute to tighten the gap.
Mykolas Ivanauskas connected from deep in the sixth minute, briefly giving the Lakers a 63–62 lead. However, a late push from Miami (OH), aided by consistent free-throw shooting, allowed the Redhawks to reclaim control. The Lakers ultimately fell 76–71 in a competitive road effort.
Bernie Blunt III scored 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting and added four free throws. Lemelman matched him with 15 points, including three triples and three steals. Ivanauskas contributed 14 points, hitting two three-pointers and going perfect from the line. Martin added 10 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks in a strong all-around performance.
