Volleyball Continues NEC Action at Saint Francis and LIU

The Mecyhurst Volleyball team enters the third week of NEC action, coming off a bye week. The Lakers played their first NEC games of the year Sept. 26-27, splitting the two game series with FDU at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. 
 
The Watchlist:
Andrea Zaric was named a NEC Prime Performer for her performance against FDU. She had 23 kills on a .259 hitting percentage. She also generated 24.5 points for the Lakers.
 
Kaitlin Murphy contributed 10 blocks and nine kills for the Lakers. Murphy ranks eighth in the NEC in blocks with 0.83 blocks per set.
 
Alyssa Krause was a key factor for victory against FDU, primarily due to her service aces. She got four across both games, which ranks her sixth in the NEC with 0.38 aces per set. She also contributed 29 assists with 10 digs.
 
A Closer Look: Saint Francis
  • St. Francis started 4-0 in conference play, earning series wins over Stonehill and Central Connecticut.
  • Opposite hitter Kori McClure ranks second in the NEC with a .410 hitting percentage.
  • They are on an active five-game winning streak.
  • Outside Hitter Korrin Burns leads the NEC in kills with 5.07 per set.
 
A Closer Look: LIU
  • LIU started 4-0 in conference play, picking up series wins over Chicago State and Le Moyne.
  • Middle Blocker Yasmeen Muhammad leads the NEC with a .413 hitting percentage and is third in blocks, averaging 1.1 per set.
  • They are on an active five-game winning streak.
  • The Sharks have seven players representing six different countries (Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Germany, Hungary, Brazil, Netherlands).
