Men's Ice Hockey Prepares to Face Bentley; Marks the 38th Year of Program History

The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team will host the Bentley Falcons in two AHA matchups this weekend. Friday's match will mark the sixth game played on Halloween and the 38 years since the program's inaugural game that took place on October 31, 1987.
 
Previously from the Lakers
The Lakers welcomed UMass Lowell to Erie for the first time in program history last week. The Green and Blue fell in both games, falling Friday, 4-0 and Saturday, 4-3.
 
The Watchlist
There were three different goal scorers for the Lakers last weekend. All three goals came in the second period of game two.

Sean James scored the first goal of the weekend on a breakaway. The goal was unassisted.

Transfer John Larkin scored his first goal in the Green and Blue on a power play goal. Freshman Jacob LeBlanc notched the first assist of his career. Noah Sedore tallied the secondary assist, and the second of the season.

Freshman Alexander Dimitriadis scored the third goal for the Lakers, the goal marking his first career goal. He was unassisted.

Goaltenders Michael Chambre and Charles-Edward Gravel split the weekend. Chambre made 30 saves in net, allowing three goals. Gravel took the net for the Green and Blue Saturday. Gravel made 37 saves in net, allowing four goals.

Brendan Lamb excelled in faceoffs over the weekend, winning 20 out of 37 attempts.
 
A Closer Look: Bentley
  • Bentley has started their season 2-3-0 overall, and 2-0-0 in AHA play.
  • The Falcons found their first two conference wins against Canisius.
  • Bentley enters the 2025-26 slate after winning the AHA Conference Tournament last season.
  • Outside of conference, the Falcons faced all ranked opponents. They were handed losses from Colorado College, Denver, and UMass.
  • 20 Falcons return to the ice this season repping the blue and black.
  • Most notably returning is the top returning goal scorer Oskar Bakkevig who tallied ten goals for the Falcons last season.
  • Stephen Castagna also returns to the ice for the Falcons. Last season he was third in assists with 20, and fourth in points with 25.
  • Castagna leads the Falcons in points and goals in five games so far this season. He has five points in five games, leads in goals with three, and is tied in assists with two.
  •  Michael Mesic follows right behind Castagna with four points thus far. Mesic has tallied two goals and two assists in five games.
The Lakers have met the Falcons 53 times in program history. The Green and Blue have an overall record of 24-22-7.
