McGarry Nets 4 Goals as Lakers Fight Hard in Erie Weekend

ERIE, Pa. – The Lakers traveled to downtown Erie to play the Gannon Golden Knights at the Erie Insurance Arena on Saturday night. Looking to make an impact against their cross-town rival, Mercyhurst came out of the gate firing on all cylinders.
 
In the 1st period, the Golden Knights got an early power play after Jake Moran took a slashing penalty. Gannon would go on to capitalize and score their first goal of the game at 16:34 on the power play. The Lakers knew they had to answer, and Erie native Braydan McGarry delivered a quick short-handed goal at 16:18, his 1st goal of the season. The feed coming from Ethan Premo, his 1st assist of the season. Both teams would spend significant time in the penalty box throughout the period, but no one was able to net another goal.
 
In the 2nd period, Gannon would spend a large portion of the 2nd half of the period in the penalty box, but the Lakers were unable to take advantage of the situation. With just over three minutes left in the period, Gannon scored the go-ahead goal, leaving the score at 2-1 in favor of the Knights heading into the final frame of the game.
 
In the 3rd period, both teams spent some more time in the penalty box, but Gannon was able to net a short-handed goal with just over 10 minutes left in the game. McGarry would get another chance to score on the power play, where he would take advantage and score his 2nd goal of the night. Team captain Lorenzo Shipley and rookie Trevor Keenan earned their 1st, and 4th assists respectively on the goal. The Lakers were unable to mount a comeback and fell 3-2 downtown.
 
Max Ingerman got the nod for the start, but he was unable to finish the game after taking a hit. Gabe Rodland came into the game to support the Lakers, eventually finishing out the game for the Green and Blue.
 
The Lakers would then turn around and defend their home ice against ECC on Sunday.
 
In the 1st period, McGarry would open the scoring for the game at 12:09, his 3rd of the weekend. ECC would score 4 unanswered goals, with the final goal coming with 30 seconds remaining in the period.
In the 2nd period, Seamus Gentile-Ovens scored his 2nd goal of the season at 15:34 with the assists coming from Blake Cusse and Evan Husarek, their 1st assists of the season. The Lakers would then score a quick pair of goals before the 10-minute mark. Antonio Fleck scored his 2nd of the season and McGarry scored his 4th of the weekend. Fleck would repeat his offensive output with an unassisted goal at 9:24, his 3rd of the season. ECC would round out the scoring for the period with a goal coming at 2:56, leaving the score at 5-5 heading into the 3rd period.
 
ECC would score an early goal in the 3rd period that would end up being the game-winning-goal. The Lakers would fall in a hard-fought battle 6-5.
 
Rookie Owen Morgan got the start for Mercyhurst, stopping 24 of 30 shots.
 
The Lakers return to the ice on Sunday, November 2 against Buffalo at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Puck drop is set for 12 PM.
