The Mercyhurst women's hockey team hosts #10 St. Lawrence for their third series of the year. Puck drop for game one will take place Friday, Oct. 3 at 6:00 p.m. Game two will begin Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m.
Previous Results
The Lakers are 2-2-0 this season. They hosted #5/6 Minnesota Duluth in their first series. Game one ended 4-3 in overtime and game two ended 5-3. Most recently, the Lakers traveled to UNH and swept the Wildcats. Game one ended 3-2 and game two finished in a 4-0 shutout.
Matchup History
Mercyhurst is 15-22-4 all time versus St. Lawrence. The Laker's second ever series in 1999 was against the Saints where they fell 4-0 and 3-0. Their first series sweep over the Saints came in the 2008-09 season, where they won 5-2 and 2-1 when St. Lawrence was ranked #4 in the nation. This was the same season the Lakers knocked the Saints out of the NCAA tournament and made the championship game. The Lakers swept the Saints the following season in 2009-10 when the Saints were #10 in the nation. The highest scoring series came in the 2010-11 season where the two teams split. SLU won game one 6-2 and MU won game two 7-3. Last season, St. Lawrence was ranked #8 when they hosted Mercyhurst and swept them 3-0 and 1-2.
Lakers to Look Out for
Julia Perjus leads the Laker's scoring column with four goals and an assist. Perjus has two multi-goal games this season and has a .500 faceoff win percentage.
Makayla Javier is tied with Perjus in points (5). The Laker's captain is tied for the top spot in the nation for points among blueliners. Javier was named the AHA defenseman of the week after scoring the game-winning goal in game one against UNH and recording a career-high three assists in game two. Javier is also leading the nation in blocks with 15.
Freshmen
Nayeon Kim (4) and
Maja Alenius (3) are the second and third highest on the team in assists.
Magdalena Luggin started between the pipes against UMD and recorded a career-high 47 saves in the first game and another 28 saves in the second game. Luggin was the winning netminder in game one of the UNH series.
Tara Bach started game two against UNH and recorded 25 saves and a shutout in her first career game.
Scouting St. Lawrence
- The Saints finished last season 22-12-5 overall and 12-4-3 in the ECAC.
- They fell to Colgate 4-2 in the ECAC semifinals.
- They defeated #7 Penn State 4-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
- Eventually, they fell to #2 Ohio State in the second round.
