ERIE, Pa. — Two first half goals were not enough to lift the Mercyhurst women's soccer team over Stonehill as they fall 3-2.
The first half began with Mercyhurst establishing early control.
Madison Sievering scored the opening goal in the 19th minute with an assist from
Maddi Cowburn, putting the Lakers ahead.
As the half progressed, Stonehill managed to equalize with a goal in the 35th minute. However, the Lakers quickly regained the lead when
Anamari Bosnjak, assisted by
Fiona Fraser, found the back of the net just a minute later. The half concluded with the Lakers leading 2-1.
The second half began with a defensive stand for Mercyhurst, as
Rylee Kumer made key saves to deny Stonehill's early attempts. Despite Kumer's efforts, Stonehill equalized in the 70th minute with a goal leveling the score at 2-2.
The Lakers pressed forward with a shot from Sievering in the 76th minute, which was saved by Stonehill's goalkeeper. Stonehill, however, capitalized on their momentum and took the lead in the 84th minute with a goal. The Lakers closed the half with a strong defensive effort but trailed 3-2 at the final whistle.
